Former F/A-18 Pilot, USN
Cameron “Chappy” Douglas is a former F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet pilot with 2000 hours of flight experience and more than 350 carrier arrested landings. Chappy graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with merit in 2004 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering.
During his Navy career, Chappy was awarded three Air Medals for exceptional performance while executing more than 60 aircraft carrier launched combat sorties in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. For demonstrating superior tactical and administrative leadership, Chappy was recognized by his Commanding Officer with the Squadron Leadership Award in 2010. He was then selected to become a flight instructor, teaching more than 400 flights, simulators, and classes to train F/A-18 student pilots and to certify his peers as flight instructors. During his tour as a flight instructor, Chappy revised a portion of the pilot training syllabus by identifying and removing redundancies, resulting in improved efficiency and significant savings in annual operating costs. In his final tour, Chappy was the senior Air Wing Landing Signals Officer (CAG Paddles), where he held direct responsibility for all aircraft landing aboard the aircraft carrier. During this tour, he was selected to attend the Navy’s School of Aviation Safety where he graduated with honors. In this role, he was the air wing’s subject matter expert in operational safety and risk management, responsible for managing the safety of air and ground operations for the 1800-person organization.
After leaving Active Duty in 2015, Chappy enrolled as a full-time student at Harvard Business School where he was active in multiple extra-curricular activities to include the Armed Forces Alumni Association, the Management Consulting Club, and numerous volunteer events in the local area. While at Harvard, Chappy joined the Afterburner team and has enjoyed using his experiences in the military as a combat leader and tactician with the knowledge from his academic studies to help businesses improve their operations and transform to a culture of continuous improvement by implementing the Flawless Execution Model.
